Episode 1 Gotham FX -Winter 2012
I taged along with One9 to Visit our former studio mate's new spot in Jersey. With No real cameras or Mics I just used my Cannon elf and went with it. This was the first one i made and it was a reintroduction to filming and editing after a decade plus hiatus.

Lost and Found
For years now I've been developing habits of collecting different things. Other peoples photos are at the top of that list. Wether found at thrift store, street, or estate sale I've created a pretty large collection here are some highlights.

In 2011 i was the guest Curator and Art director for Input Journal #3 Heres a short i did to promote for the book release.

Mighty Tanaka presents:
Sooner or Later...We All Make The Little Flowers Grow
A solo show by John Breiner

Life, death and rebirth, the constant cycle of existence. Yet, the turbulence of a shifting dynamic on the planet has caused a major disruption in the natural order of things. In this modern age, the Earth's climate is increasing, causing certain aspects of flora and fauna to gain a foothold on developed land and take advantage of recouping expanses of once settled areas within the great American landscape. Through chaotic economic conditions and unforeseen disasters, devastating setbacks have allowed once expelled elements to creep back into the neglected expanses, reaping havoc on our forgotten structures. This encroachment of the wild upon once settled habitat symbolizes mans weakening grip on world. Mighty Tanaka is excited to bring you our next solo show, Sooner or Later...We All Make The Little Flowers Grow, featuring the thought provoking artwork of John Breiner. His juxtaposing views of the planets continual reclamation exemplifies the significant impact of our actions within an ever changing terrain.

Sooner or Later...We All Make The Little Flowers Grow suggests that humans have become an invasive species as the population has been growing with rapid acceleration. The natural world responds by enacting new systems to rapidly break down buildings and infrastucture. John Breiner references this to symbolize the decomposition of society and the spread of positivity to overcome all obstacles.

John Breiner uses a mixed media approach to his work that includes elements of photo transfer, acrylic paint, spray paint and illustration upon found books and old sheets of paper. Through his beautiful interpretations, the work comes to life, inviting the viewer to visit to take a step closer and unravel the contrasting enigma.

"Sometimes breaking the rules turns out to be the best way to learn. With graffiti artists, that often comes in the form of breaking the law.

Artist John Breiner has curated a show for MCLA Gallery 51 at 51 Main St. that examines how young artists move past youthful indiscretions and retain that energy for gallery work.

The show “Quantum Spectrum” opens on Thursday, Sept. 30, with a reception at 6 p.m.

Even though Breiner has gathered a cast of street artists who spent much of their early years in the world of graffiti, his interest isn’t in what was, but rather, what happened after that. Breiner is fascinated by the transition and how each artist has dealt with it on his or her own creative terms.

“This show tries to find out if there is something that these artists are doing that motivated them as much as graffiti did as teenagers,” Breiner said during an interview this week. “We all grew up with similar backgrounds, and the motivation when I was young to paint outside, to paint in public, was to wake up the next day and have a photo of what you did the night before. Unfortunately, when you get into the real world and make a living, you have to go easy on the stuff that will get you in trouble.”
Breiner’s one promise to himself was not to create a graffiti show within the gallery. He just doesn’t think that works and believes that, within in a gallery setting, what has grown out of those early creative years and become part of mature art-making is far more interesting.

“I was definitely out running around at 3 o’clock in the morning, seeing some unique things. It makes me who I am and therefore makes the art what it is,” he said. “It’s the same for a lot of these artists, and I feel like there is an edge to them and that their work is worth being shown. I know them personally, so I know the different types of things people are doing, and I want the show to be that instead of the obvious, what everyone would expect to see.”

I was recently asked to Curate &#38; Art direct / Design the current Issue Of INPUT Journal # 3.

INPUT is put out Twice a Year By Founder and Co Curator Renee Vara, This issue was The "Pink Iguana Issue" and it Featured The Work of:

Soner On, Rich Browd, Pooneh Maghazehe, Sakura Maku, Kiji McCafferty, Garrison Buxton, Dominick Rapone, Andreis Costa, Max Greis, Taras Hrabowsky, Dagmara Genda and John Breiner.

Some Background: The Pink Iguana
Technology is rapidly changing the material form of the book and its ecosystem. Visual information is now consumed through divergent e-species and i-species: handheld phones, portable devices, iPads, eReaders, tweets, and blogs. The form of the book is near extinction as it is subjected to extreme Darwinian conditions. Furthermore, the “art” and “artist” book is under particular duress as it is distributed via a threatened environment – the art and architecture book store.

The Pink Iguana, a species previously thought to exist only in Galapagos Island folklore, was recently discovered by Gabriele Gentile and a team of biologists; and it serves as a metaphor for the art book. INPUT#3 asks a community of 12 emerging artists to contemplate the Pink Iguana as they consider the art book as an evolving and adapting medium of artistic engagement.

Along with Design i did several new illustrations for the project..

		<description>Work on books: 2002 - 2013
Originally sparked after reading the book Fahrenheit 451 I started to work on books in 2002.
Over the years a onetime project has turned into an addiction.

Aside from the joy of finding and collecting discarded books, I feel as if we've become a creative team. First Attracted by their surfaces where light, water and time all provide marks of inspiration in me. I've gone further. I've become aware (books &#38; I) are now competing with modern media, technology, and the disappearance of the handmade tradition. It's quite an uphill battle, and im not sure whos winning.

I tend to work on the end pages, where people look for the summary of the book. There’s no width of pages to scare anyone away an obviously a pictures worth a thousand words. People are busy these days and in an age of information overload I want to make my ideas accessible so I updated a format that’s conveyed information for thousands of years. Now they tell my story..
